Hockey players of the Nizhny Novgorod “Chaika” continue to compete in the playoffs of the Kharlamov Cup of the 2023-2024 season. The team from Nizhny Novgorod is the current holder of the trophy and has shown excellent results during the current season, gaining a foothold among the strongest representatives of the league. Based on the results of 50 matches played in the regular season, “Chaika” took 4th place in the “Golden” division of the Eastern Conference, losing in the distance to representatives of Omsk, Chelyabinsk and Khanty-Mansiysk. In two rounds of the playoffs, Chaika knocked out Irbis Kazan and Mamontov Ugra from the fight for the trophy, securing passage to the semifinals.
In the semi-final series of the Kharlamov Cup playoffs, the hockey players of the Nizhny Novgorod “Chaika”, like a year ago, will have to play against the Yaroslavl “Loko”. According to the results of the regular season, the Yaroslavl team became the best in the “Golden” division of the Western Conference, ahead of their principal rivals from St. Petersburg. Last season, the “golden” squad of “Chaika” beat Yaroslavl “Loko” without any problems. Fans of Russian hockey can expect a derby between two geographical neighbors.
The first match of the Kharlamov Cup semi-final playoff series between Chaika and Loko will take place on March 31.
