Hockey players of the Nizhny Novgorod “Chaika” continue to compete in the playoffs of the Kharlamov Cup of the 2023-2024 season. The team from Nizhny Novgorod is the current holder of the trophy and has shown excellent results during the current season, settling among the best teams in the league. Based on the results of 50 matches played in the regular season, Chaika took 4th place in the Golden Division of the Eastern Conference and secured a direct ticket to the playoffs. In the Kharlamov Cup, Chaika beat Irbis and Mamontov Ugra without any problems, but difficulties began with Loko.
On April 8, Yaroslavl hosted the fifth match of the series between Chaika and Loko, which ended in triumph for local hockey players. “Chaika” took the lead in the first period, but failed to maintain the minimal advantage until the end of the match. During the third period, Loko’s hockey players had a powerful run, which decided the outcome of the meeting. In 4 minutes, the “railwaymen” scored 3 goals, which allowed them to win the match and lead the series. Thus, Chaika is just one defeat away from being eliminated from the playoffs.
The sixth match of the series will take place on April 10, in Nizhny Novgorod.
