Elections in the territory of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions will be held on the Single Voting Day – September 10. This decision was made at a meeting of the Central Election Commission, writes TASS.

According to CEC chairperson Ella Pamfilova, the Ministry of Defense and the FSB, after consulting with the CEC on June 14, concluded that it is possible to hold elections in September in new Russian regions.

On the territories of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, martial law (VP) is now in effect, which was introduced immediately after they joined Russia in the fall of 2022. June 14 heads of regions filed applications to the CEC with a proposal to hold elections in their territories.

May 29 Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that excludes the ban on holding referendums and elections to government bodies in those regions where martial law is in effect. According to the amendments, elections can now be held in such regions, but only after consultations between the CEC, the Ministry of Defense and the FSB. In accordance with the adopted document, the head of the region on whose territory martial law has been introduced can send an application to the CEC for the purpose of holding elections or a referendum. The CEC is obliged to consider the application within five days and consult with the FSB and the Ministry of Defense. After that, in case of consent, the CEC informs the president about this, in case of refusal – the head of the region.
