CEC approves electronic voting in 24 regions in September

Remote electronic voting (DEV) on the federal platform will be used in 24 regions in the elections in September. The corresponding decision was made at a meeting of the Central Election Commission. 11 members of the commission voted in support, one voted against.

CEC chair Ella Pamfilova said that 31 applications for the use of DEG were sent to the CEC, seven regions withdrew the applications. “In terms of the number of election campaigns, the DEG will cover more than 300 this year, of which two are federal-level campaigns (by-elections in single-member districts in Crimea and the Lipetsk region.— “b”). If we talk about potential voters, then the DEG will affect 20.6 million people,” she said during CEC meetings.

Ms. Pamfilova stressed that in almost every fourth subject there is an additional opportunity to choose how to vote: traditionally or remotely electronically. “We hope that each region will approach the organization of the DEG responsibly and hold it at a high level!” – she said.

The single voting day in Russia will take place on 10 September. On this day, the heads of 23 Russian regions, as well as deputies of 16 regional parliaments, will be elected. In total, 78 election campaigns will be held in 54 constituent entities of the Russian Federation, more than 34 thousand seats will be replaced.
