Cases of importation of typhoid fever by migrants from Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Egypt, Cambodia and other Asian countries have been identified in Russia.
This problem was discussed by epidemiologists at the section “Molecular biological methods in the study of infectious pathology of the gastrointestinal tract,” which took place recently in St. Petersburg, reports the medical portal pcr.news.
According to an employee of the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after Pasteur, typhoid fever has not been diagnosed among citizens of our country. However, the disease was detected from 2005 to 2023 in 29 territories of the Russian Federation. In all cases, doctors diagnosed the H58 haplotype of the disease, which belongs to the so-called “successful Asian clone” – an international clone with a high risk of pandemic spread, which originates from the countries of Southeast and South Asia.
