CAS accepted an appeal against the IOC decision to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered an appeal by the Russian Olympic Committee against the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend the activities of the Russian committee. The IOC made this decision due to the inclusion of the annexed regions (DPR and LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions) in its composition.
“The Court of Arbitration for Sport has registered an appeal filed by the Russian Olympic Committee against a decision made by the Executive Council of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) dated October 12, 2023,” it says on website CAS.
In the appeal, the Russian Olympic Committee asks to cancel the IOC decision and restore it to all lost rights. The court announced the start of arbitration proceedings: as reported on the court’s website, a panel of arbitrators is now being formed. After the CAS decision, Russia will have another opportunity to challenge the IOC decision in the Swiss Federal Court.
The IOC stripped the Russian Olympic Committee of its powers. Previously, the International Olympic Committee. The IOC believes that the Olympic councils of the new regions, which were included in the Russian committee, are still under the administration of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine. In particular, the Russian Olympic Committee was deprived of the right to act on behalf of the national Olympic committee, as well as the opportunity to receive funding from the Olympic movement.
