Norwegian Magnus Carlsen became a four-time world champion in rapid chess (rapid). After the victory in Alma-Ata, he expressed satisfaction that he was able to pull himself together after the defeat in the tournament, which was inflicted on him by Vladislav Artemyev (the Russian finished seventh in the end).
“If I hadn’t lost to Artemiev, it wouldn’t have been so exciting,” said the reigning NRK World Champion. “I’m incredibly happy and pleased that I managed to pull myself together.”
In the women’s tournament, the Chinese woman Tan Zhongyi became the world champion.
On December 29-30, Alma-Ata will also host the World Blitz Championship.
