There are foods whose consumption is especially harmful to the heart, said cardiologist Oleg Varfolomeev.
Managing the body’s cholesterol levels is key, he says, as high cholesterol significantly raises the risk of serious health problems, from heart disease to strokes. He recalled that cholesterol is often referred to as the “silent killer”.
The doctor pointed out that the first step is to reduce the intake of saturated fats, that is, those that increase the level of cholesterol in the blood. According to him, the source of saturated fats is processed meat – fatty bacon, sausages, hamburgers and canned meats, as well as fatty red meat.
At the same time, the doctor said that in any case, meat should be in the diet, but in reasonable quantities. And it is better to prefer lean meat.
Varfolomeev also stated that fast food products are rich in saturated fats, as well as “takeaway food”. Fried and baked goods are harmful to the heart and blood vessels, as is butter.
