The meeting of Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis can be organized in Africa, in Morocco. This proposal was made by the Catholic Archbishop of Rabat and the apostolic administrator of Tangier, Cardinal Cristobal López Romero.
“It would be great if Africa, and more specifically Morocco, would be the place of this coveted meeting,” he said.
According to him, such a meeting would be symbolic. Morocco is mostly a Muslim country, but there are strong traditions of hospitality and open moderate Islam.
Romero added that the pontiff had repeatedly expressed a desire to meet with the patriarch. However, according to the cardinal, this requires a strong desire on both sides, an invitation and organization, as well as “physical and spiritual efforts for dialogue.”
