During the New Year holidays, the capital’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection will take special control over street photographers offering to photograph with animals. The main goal is to protect the life and health of owls.
As explained in the press service of the Department, the reason for strengthening control is that during the New Year holidays, experts expect an increase in demand for the services of street photographers, who offer passers-by to take a memorable photo with wild animals and birds. And owls are perhaps the most vulnerable animals that people offer to film with in the winter. The fact is that these birds in their natural environment are exclusively nocturnal. A long stay on the street, poor nutrition and disruption of the natural daily routine can cause many diseases in these owls and even lead to the death of birds.
The department emphasizes that the purpose of the action is not to control the work of photographers, but to control their use of animal photo models. Practice shows that in the vast majority of cases such actors do not have any documents for the animals they exploit.
Inspectors from the Department of State Environmental Control of the Department are responsible for suppressing this type of illegal use of animals. But citizens can also help save birds.
