Camera fines for traffic violations reached a five-year record amount

In 2023, Russians were fined 141 billion rubles for violating traffic rules using photo and video cameras. This is a record figure over the past five years, as follows from statistics State traffic inspectorate, which drew the attention of TASS.

Last year, with the help of data from cameras, 220.9 million decisions were issued for 140.9 billion rubles. Of this amount, almost 76.5 billion rubles were paid at the end of the year. The amount of fines is a record for the last five years. In 2022, the chambers issued decisions worth 112.9 billion rubles, in 2021 – 104.1 billion rubles, in 2020 – 94.2 billion rubles, in 2019 – 82.8 billion rub.

In total, last year Russians were fined 237.6 million for violating traffic rules, or 36.4 million more than in 2022. The amount of fines imposed is 170.2 billion rubles. Moscow accounted for 41.5 million fines for 31.7 billion rubles, in the Moscow region – 39.9 million fines for 24.4 billion rubles.

As Kommersant wrote, the Prosecutor General’s Office, together with the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate, plans to inspect the installation sites of traffic cameras throughout Russia to make sure that all complexes are used “for their intended purpose.” The head of the traffic police, Mikhail Chernikov, said last summer that there are 24 thousand stationary and more than 3 thousand mobile photo-video recording systems operating in Russia. Thus, almost 30 thousand devices are subject to verification.
