Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic objected to critics who accused him of giving reports to Russian Ambassador Aleksandar Bocan-Kharchenko. According to ill-wishers, the head of the Serbian state went to “report” to the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in the republic, which in Serbian means “was called to the carpet.”
Vučić did indeed hold a meeting with the Russian ambassador on Monday, August 28. During the conversation with Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, he confirmed Belgrade’s course to maintain harmonious relations with Moscow.
Responding to critics, the President of Serbia indicated that he had known the Russian ambassador for many years. “We have an exceptionally correct relationship,” Vučić stressed. “It would be bold to say that we are friends, but probably would not be mistaken if I said so.” The head of the Republika Srpska added that if someone accuses him of “going to report” to the Russian ambassador, one must conclude that these critics are judging by themselves, because they go to report to other ambassadors.
“On the other hand, he was my guest, and not I was his,” Vucic continued, answering a question from journalists about critical publications in the pro-Western press regarding his visit. “It’s funny, but more importantly, these people and their media don’t have any politics of their own.” The President of Serbia added that people and the media, who advocate sanctions against Russia, for an unfriendly policy towards our country, criticize him for visiting the Russian ambassador. “But when it seems to them that they can earn political points on the opposite, they don’t hesitate for a minute,” the head of the Republika Srpska emphasized.
Formerly MK informed on Vučić’s demand to exclude from the final declaration of the African summit two points unacceptable for Belgrade, which were anti-Russian and related to the Ukrainian conflict.
