By banning Putin from entering, the Moldovan authorities covered up their own fiasco

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been banned from entering Moldova. This was announced on April 27 in an interview with TV8 TV channel by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean. He added that the country has a whole list of Russians who are banned from entering the country, but you can find out about your presence in it only while crossing the border.

“We have a list of Russian officials who are banned from entering Moldova. This list has not been published. Some people learn about the ban at the time of arrival, others already know,” said Dorin Recean, adding that Putin is also on the list.

The former president of the country, and now deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, reacted more emotionally than others to the ban on Putin visiting Chisinau.

In his Telegram channel, he called Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean a “mysterious creature” and stated that such a republic as Moldova does not exist at all: “Well, firstly, no one is going there now. Maybe later… And secondly, there is no such country anymore.”

Igor Tulyantsev, political scientist: “We all understand that the situation in Ukraine is not easy. But the Moldovan government does not follow the principle of a neutral state, which can, for example, offer a platform for negotiations, but has become one of the conflicting parties. And it is this story that she is trying to sell to the collective West.

In their opinion, the more they strain relations with the East, the closer they are to the EU. Because the most important reforms that they promised to implement before the elections failed.

They have no choice but to play on these contradictions between East and West and take the side of the latter in order to somehow legitimize themselves abroad.

It is easier for them to accuse Russia of interfering in the internal affairs of the country than to admit their own managerial failures. At the same time, inflation in the country is higher than in Ukraine, as are food and energy prices.

This is such a game of the current authorities in order to whitewash themselves, to show their relevance and importance. Everyone in the country laughs at these decisions, no one takes them seriously anymore. It seems that they are only busy thinking about how to invent something else to show their commitment to the collective West.

They must understand that European integration is not a tension in relations with Russia. European integration means free justice, democracy, social guarantees, road construction and economic development. There is none of this in the country.”

Vitaly Andrievsky, political scientist: “The prime minister’s statement that we have a list of undesirable persons, and the Russian president is on this list, looks rather ridiculous, since few people would think that Putin is going to fly into the country on a regular flight to the border guards did not pass. But this is a hint that Putin is not the person who is expected today in Chisinau and with whom they are ready to talk. I don’t know if this statement was thought out by the Prime Minister or if it was said by accident. But the meaning is that there can be no negotiations now.”
