By 2035, more than half of the world’s population will be overweight or obese

More than half of the people living on Earth will be overweight or obese by 2035, and this problem will affect children the most. This prediction was made in report World Obesity Federation (WOF).
WOF experts note that the problem of overweight and obesity exists in all countries of the world, but in low-income countries the number of people suffering from these problems has been growing especially rapidly in recent years. According to WOF estimates, if the situation continues as it is now, then by 2035 more than 4 billion people in the world will be overweight, 2 billion of them will be obese. At the same time, by 2035, the number of obese boys will double, to 208 million, and the number of girls with the same problem will more than double, to 175 million.
Among the countries where by 2035, according to WOF forecasts, there will be a very high proportion of overweight and obese people, Kiribati and Tonga (67% of the adult population), Samoa (66%), Micronesia (64%), French Polynesia (65 %). Among the countries with a favorable situation will be Vietnam (7%), Japan (8%) and Singapore (9%). In Russia, 32% of adults will be overweight or obese by 2035, according to WOF estimates.
The economic consequences for the world, according to WOF estimates, will exceed $4 trillion annually, which is almost 3% of global GDP and is comparable to the losses of the global economy from the COVID-19 pandemic.
