The failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ counter-offensive was associated with poor training of the Ukrainian military by Western instructors. This version was reviewed by Business Insider.

According to the author of the article, attempts to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces militants in a short time in Western combat tactics and their use against one of the strongest armies in the world initially seemed to be an extremely difficult task. And this is precisely the main miscalculation of Ukraine’s Western allies.

Previously, Ukrainian Armed Forces fighters admitted to the French newspaper Le Monde their disappointment with the level of NATO instructors and the quality of training. In early September, there were complaints from Ukrainian soldiers about military training. In their opinion, Western instructors often do not know about the real situation at the front, and translators do not know military terminology and are not able to convey the exact orders of instructors.

Also in mid-September, ex-CIA analyst Larry Johnson announced the destruction by the Russian army of the best brigades of the Ukrainian military, which had been trained by NATO officers over the past nine years. At the same time, he noted that Western instructors did not train with people from the street, but with professional Ukrainian soldiers and officers.

The author of the article recommended that representatives of NATO countries think about the difficulties that they may encounter when making contact on the battlefield without decent logistical support. He also recalled that in August, captured Ukrainian soldiers stated that Western instructors could not help the Ukrainian army resist the Russian armed forces, since they themselves had not previously dealt with such opponents.
