A third of Russian employers do not plan to pay annual bonuses to their employees, this statistics was shared by the Superjob service. Employees of large companies have the best chance of receiving a bonus. But there are no guarantees there either; business is increasingly rewarding only top managers, Kommersant FM’s interlocutors say. Why do managers make such decisions? According to forecasts from the ProPersonnel agency, by the end of the year, employees of the banking industry, industrial enterprises, IT companies and large state corporations can count on the bonus.

The Superjob service as a whole inspires optimism: this year there will be more generous employers, and four out of ten companies intend to reward specialists at the end of the year. In 2022, only a third planned to do this.

Theoretically, the share could be larger, because not everyone has made the decision yet, noted Finn Flare CEO Ksenia Ryasova: “Bonuses are awarded based on the results of the year, but it is not over yet. So I’ll think about it over the holidays as we close out the year.

In our case, only top management has a final bonus. Ordinary employees receive monthly and quarterly payments depending on KPI. The main thing is to set these indicators correctly. This is a big problem, at least for me.”

Compared to last year, employees began to count on bonuses more often; more than a third of respondents expect payments. As Superjob notes, the value turned out to be the highest in 13 years. Half of the entrepreneurs provide additional payments for the entire team.

But Kommersant FM’s interlocutors consider a selective approach more rational. Among them is the general director of the cleaning company “Cinderella” Alexey Gribkov: “Everyone works to earn money. That is, if this is not the main task of an employee, then he does not earn money either for himself or for the company. Therefore, employees must always be clearly motivated.

Our company has annual bonuses: they are received by those who complete all assigned tasks during the year. These are, in particular, sales managers who have quarterly and annual plans. There are no New Year bonuses for cleaning and line personnel.”

At the same time, it cannot be said that employees are counting on an impressive gift for the holidays. According to a study by the Avito Rabota portal, almost half of workers hope for at least 5 thousand rubles. Only every seventh person believes that the bonus will exceed 40 thousand rubles.

At the same time, more than half of Russians do not count on a bonus at all. Perhaps this is dictated by the economic results of the business: Kommersant FM studied the statistics of the Federal Tax Service and found out that the income of Russian companies fell by half when comparing the first six months of this and 2022. There is no recent data.

But entrepreneurs may have other reasons, explained Alexander Bondarenko, CEO of R-Vision:

“The motivation system is a very subtle thing.

In some places it can really help a lot, but in others, especially if the criteria are unclear, it can even get in the way, and it would even be better without it at all.

There are many systems built on some complex indicators, KPIs, formulas, and so on, in which a person cannot always understand how the results of his work are evaluated and why, for example, he did not receive a bonus.”

At the same time, judging by official data, Russians’ wages have been growing rapidly this year, by 7%, according to President Vladimir Putin. The fixed part is much more important than the bonus, on the other hand, and this may not be enough.
