There are no plans to create a Russian military base in Burkina Faso, said Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs of the African country Kassoum Koulibaly.
In a conversation with RIA Novosti, he noted that the country believes that this will not solve the problem of terrorism.
“This is not about inviting foreign troops or setting up bases,” he said.
Koulibaly noted that his state needs the necessary funds to ensure security on its own.
“We need to get the necessary funds so that we can carry out our own struggle,” he said.
He also noted that his country is interested in buying weapons from Russia “at a good price”, according to him, deliveries are already underway and there is interest in further cooperation. He stressed that he would not disclose the details of the deal, but the weapons were purchased on very favorable terms. The minister lamented that earlier direct ties with Russia had been disrupted due to “political partners”.
