Bundeswehr officer arrested in Germany on charges of spying for Russia

Thomas H., an employee of the German Ministry of Defense, was detained in the city of Koblenz in the west of the country on a case of spying for Russia, writes Bild.

According to the German Prosecutor General’s Office, the man has repeatedly, since May of this year, offered cooperation to Russian diplomats in Bonn and Berlin, and also passed on some information to the Russian side. As specified, he worked in the department responsible for procurement for the German Armed Forces.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on July 27, today he appeared before the court, sent him into custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

Earlier in January of this year, a man was detained in Germany on charges of spying for Russia. The investigation believes that he was familiar with the previously arrested employee of the Federal Intelligence Service of Germany (BND) and received some data from him, then passing them on to Russian intelligence.

At the end of June, a Russian hockey player was arrested in Poland on charges of espionage. According to investigators, the hockey player has been in Poland since October 2021. According to the RMF24 TV channel, he has been detained for 20 years. He became the fourteenth person who was detained as part of the investigation of the spy network. According to prosecutors, the suspects, allegedly on behalf of Russian intelligence, were preparing sabotage on the territory of Poland and were conducting intelligence and propaganda activities.
