The Bulgarian prosecutor’s office conducted an investigation and did not reveal any signs of Bulgaria’s participation in the terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge. This was stated by the chief prosecutor of the republic Ivan Geshev on Twitter.
“Colleagues from the Sofia city prosecutor’s office have categorically established that Bulgaria has nothing to do with the explosion on the Crimean bridge,” Geshev wrote. On what basis these conclusions were drawn is not explained.
On October 8, 2002, a truck was blown up on the Crimean bridge, which led to the collapse of two spans of the automobile part and a strong fire on the railway. Four people died. The head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Alexander Bastrykin, called the incident a terrorist attack, pointing out that the Ukrainian special services were behind it. Bastrykin also told Russian President Vladimir Putin that the truck’s route started in Bulgaria. The explosives were reportedly hidden in rolls of plastic wrap shipped from the port of Odessa to Bulgarian Ruse.
