Bulgaria sent Kyiv a train of 30 wagons with armored personnel carriers
30 wagons with armored personnel carriers departed from Bulgaria to Ukraine as part of the promised military assistance, announced the country’s Defense Minister Todor Tagarev according to information from Bulgarian National Television.
“The first convoy of 30 wagons left on March 7. 240 military personnel took part in the operation. Total expenses amounted to more than 170 thousand Bulgarian leva (€85 thousand),” Tagarev noted.
According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, “dozens” of M113 armored personnel carriers were delivered. In total, Bulgaria promised to transfer 100 armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian army. The bill on the gratuitous transfer to Kyiv was adopted by the Bulgarian Parliament at the end of November 2023 after overcoming the veto of President Rumen Radev. The signing of a bilateral agreement between Bulgaria and Ukraine followed.
In January, Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagarev said that the delay in sending armored personnel carriers was due to the lack of a sponsor willing to pay for the delivery. As a result, Tagarev turned to NATO with a request for financial support, Euractiv reported.
The supply of Western weapons to Ukraine is criticized by the Russian authorities.
