Bulgaria officially announced the sending of military aid to Ukraine

Bulgaria sent the first official package of military assistance to Ukraine, which consists of 100 armored vehicles. About it writes Euractiv portal.

“This is armored military equipment, acquired during the restoration process and never used. At the same time, this leads to storage and maintenance costs,” said an MP from the ruling coalition “We keep changing – democratic Bulgaria”. According to him, the equipment was purchased 40 years ago.

Euractiv notes that this was announced a week after the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Bulgaria. The portal writes that unofficially Bulgaria helped Kyiv with ammunition, and the public announcement of the supply of armored vehicles was Sofia’s first official statement about sending heavy weapons.

At the same time, Bulgaria expects to receive support from the United States, the army has already announced an order for almost $ 1 billion of modern Western armored vehicles for infantry. At the same time, it is noted that Bulgaria is one of the few NATO member countries that has a large number of Soviet weapons and equipment that are used by the Ukrainian army.

According to report German Kiel Institute for the World Economy, from February 25 to May 31, the actual supply of heavy weapons from Western countries to Ukraine amounted to “slightly more than half of what was promised.” The report noted that the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom “rapidly increased their pledged [в феврале]but deliveries remain well below promises.”
