Bulgaria will veto if the EU imposes sanctions on Russia’s nuclear sector. This was reported by the Bulgarian National Radio with reference to the words of the President of the Republic Rumen Radev.
“Bulgaria cannot approve possible European sanctions against Russia in the field of nuclear energy, since they will directly affect our energy sector. Therefore, if it comes to this, then Bulgaria will veto,” Radev said.
On February 9, the president of the republic at the EU summit called sanctions against Russia in the field of nuclear energy unacceptable. However, Radev said the country is considering other areas for expansion.
On January 27, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also promised to veto nuclear sanctions. According to the prime minister, if the EU imposes restrictions on Rosatom, then “obviously, a veto should be imposed.”
