Bubonic plague pathogen found on border with Russia in Mongolia
In Mongolia, near the border with Russia, a bubonic plague pathogen was found. This was reported in the public health department of the emergency working service of the National Center for the Study of Zoonotic Infections of the country.
According to the study, 137 natural plague foci were found in 17 aimags (regions). Experts checked the dead animals, including marmots. At the same time, none of the people became infected, the department added.
One of the centers of infection is the Zavkhan aimag, which borders the Russian Republic of Tyva. The pathogen was found in a dead groundhog cub. Local residents and tourists were reminded that rodents should not be eaten here.
At the same time, plague is an endemic (peculiar to a certain geographical area) disease for Mongolia.
