Britney Spears gave a speech after the NBA star’s bodyguard allegedly gave her a “backhand punch”. The pop singer filed a police report after an incident involving bodyguard Victor Wembanyama in Las Vegas on Wednesday

Infamous singer Britney Spears has confirmed she filed a police report following an “embarrassing” incident in which she was allegedly backhanded and knocked over by NBA star Victor Wembanyama’s security officer Wednesday night in Las Vegas.

The alleged incident, reported separately by Spears and Wembanyama, took place at the Aria Hotel’s Catch Restaurant around 8:30 p.m., according to The Guardian. Spears, her husband Sam Asgari and two other guests were entering the restaurant when she spotted Wembanyama, the NBA’s tallest current player at 2.26m.

In a social media statement, Spears said she recognized the 19-year-old French phenomenon and “decided to go up to him and congratulate him on his success.” She claimed she approached Wembanyama to ask for a photo and patted him on the shoulder because it was “really cool.”

“I am aware of the player’s statement where he mentioned that I grabbed him from behind, but I just patted him on the shoulder,” says Spears. “Then his guard hit me in the face with the back of his hand, without looking back, in front of the crowd.”

Speaking to media earlier on Thursday, Wembanyama claimed Spears “grabbed him from behind – not his shoulder” and he didn’t see her face, knowing only that his guards pushed the man away.

Spears said glasses were knocked off her face during the incident and thanked the Las Vegas Police Department for their help.

“People surround me all the time,” the singer said. “In fact, I was chased by a group of at least 20 fans that night, my security team didn’t hit any of them.”

The security guard allegedly apologized to the 41-year-old pop star as she continued the dinner, stating, “You understand what it’s like to be surrounded by fans.” After their security services consulted, Spears’ team filed a police report for battery.

“July 5, 2023 at approximately 11 p.m. LVMPD staff [полиции Лас-Вегаса] arrived at the 3700 block of Las Vegas Boulevard in connection with a battery investigation,” police said Thursday. “The incident was documented in a police report and no arrests or warrants were issued. No further details will be provided at this time.”

Wembanyama, who has been dubbed “the once-in-a-millennium prodigy,” will make his NBA debut for the San Antonio Spurs this Friday in Las Vegas as part of the NBA Summer League, according to NBA insider Mark Stein. Considered by many to be the most promising player in the NBA since LeBron James entered the league in 2003.

As for Britney Spears, the singer has been living in Los Angeles since a judge ended her family’s 14-year custody of her in 2021. The court order allowed the singer to take control of her reportedly $60 million estate and no longer pay a team of professionals and lawyers to handle her cases. She married Asghari in June 2022.
