The monarch is touched by the outpouring of support

Britain’s King Charles III has admitted that messages of support for cancer have “brought me to tears”.

The numerous messages of support King Charles III has received since his cancer diagnosis “brought me to tears most of the time,” the British monarch said in a new statement released by Buckingham Palace on Friday.

The British king has received more than 7,000 letters and cards from around the world since his diagnosis earlier this month, Buckingham Palace said.

Many of the messages came from children and included hand-drawn images, while other letters were from cancer survivors who shared their personal battles with the disease, the monarch added in a statement expressing gratitude to “everyone who took the time to write.”

“Such kind thoughts are the greatest consolation and support,” states Charles III.

The British monarch also admitted that the messages “brought me to tears most of the time.”

Buckingham Palace announced on February 6 that the 75-year-old British king had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer and would step away from public duties while undergoing treatment, CNN recalls.

The king’s cancer was discovered after he was admitted to a London hospital last month for corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate, although prostate cancer was ruled out by CNN’s royal source, who provided no further details.

Charles III was seen at work for the first time since his diagnosis on Wednesday when he was pictured shaking hands with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak during a meeting that marked the resumption of their weekly meetings.

Although the king has stopped speaking in public while undergoing treatment for cancer, he continues to fulfill his duties as head of state, CNN notes.

Along with the expression of gratitude, Buckingham Palace on Friday also shared some of the images and videos received by the king.

One such message that caused “much royal amusement” was a postcard from an adult with a picture of a dog wearing a veterinarian’s hat and the caption “King Charles, at least you don’t have to wear a hat,” Buckingham Palace said.

Another message said: “I wanted to tell you that I am thinking of you as you face your own diagnosis and treatment and sending prayers and all my best wishes for a speedy recovery.”

“Keep your nose up, stick your chest out, stay positive and don’t let it get you down. Believe me, it works, but the main thing is family,” well-wishers advise.

“Never give up. Be brave. Don’t go overboard. Get well soon,” another letter reads.
