British Foreign Office announces change of ambassador to Russia

Nigel Casey has been appointed His Majesty’s Ambassador to Russia and will take office in November 2023.
It is specified that the current ambassador to Russia, Deborah Bronnert, will move to another diplomatic post. She has served as British Ambassador since 2020, succeeding Laurie Bristow, who has been Ambassador to Russia for four years.
Casey has been with the UK Foreign Office since 1991. For nearly two years, from May 2021 to January 2023, he was the Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan. At the same time, he headed the Afghanistan and Pakistan Office (APD) at the British Foreign Office. Casey was already based in Moscow from 2003 to 2006 when he was First Secretary at the British Embassy in Russia.
