Minsk calls on Warsaw not to escalate the situation with its accusations of allegedly violating Polish airspace and not to use this pretext to militarize the border area. Such a statement on Wednesday, August 2, was made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
The charge d’affaires of Poland in Belarus Martin Wojciechowski was invited to the office. He was explained that the hasty statements of Polish officials about the violation of Polish airspace by two Belarusian helicopters on August 1 were not confirmed by the results of a comprehensive check conducted by the Belarusian side.
As evidence, the Polish diplomat was presented with data from an objective control of the trajectory of helicopter flights.
Earlier, the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Belarus commented on Poland’s statement about the alleged crossing of the joint border by two Belarusian helicopters Mi-24 and Mi-8. The defense department noted that such statements are far-fetched and made in order to justify the build-up of forces and means near the borders.
At the same time, Deputy Interior Minister of Poland Maciej Wonsik said that the EU countries bordering Belarus should completely block the republic. In his opinion, the situation is completely unpredictable and provocations and destabilization of Poland during the election campaign may come from the territory of Belarus, and the same will affect Lithuania and Latvia.
