British Typhoon fighter jets escorted Russian warplanes north of Scotland early Monday morning. The UK government website says the pilots took off the Typhoon fighter jets to escort the two Russian planes, “following them as they flew north of Shetland.”
The statement quoted Deputy Secretary of Defense James Hippie as saying. It is clarified that it was about British fighters based in the area of the city of Lossiemouth (Scotland).
London claims that the fighters were escorting Russian long-range anti-submarine Tu-142s.
