Deputy Head of the British Foreign Office Akhmad: London does not plan to recognize the Holodomor in Ukraine as genocide
British Deputy Foreign Secretary Tariq Ahmad said the country has no plans to recognize the mass famine in Ukraine of 1932-1933, known as the Holodomor, as genocide of Ukrainians.
The decision to recognize the Holodomor as genocide must be made by a competent court after considering all the evidence, Akhmad said, saying that the UK has long held this position.
In May 2023, the French Senate called on the government to recognize the 1932–1933 Ukrainian famine as genocide.
