Britain and France allow Ukraine to join NATO in an accelerated manner

According to Sky News, Britain and France expressed their support for Ukraine’s accelerated entry into NATO. British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg recently told allies that Ukraine had already met “many requirements” of the membership action plan.
Cleverley also noted that the UK would welcome a change in approach to the action plan, given that Finland and Sweden were included in the alliance without additional requirements, and the Ukrainians showed their willingness to reform.
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna also expressed the opinion that the action plan may not be an integral part of the roadmap for Ukraine’s entry into the alliance. She added: “We may not need an action plan mechanism.”
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine would not become a member of NATO until the end of the conflict, but would like to receive the support of partners in the form of an invitation to the alliance now. In September 2022, Zelensky announced Ukraine’s intention to apply for an accelerated entry into NATO. Later, Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan noted that such a procedure is currently irrelevant. Commenting on Zelensky’s statement, Stoltenberg mentioned the alliance’s position regarding the right of each country to determine its own path and “open door” policies, but stressed that NATO will focus on helping Kiev to ensure its security.
