The British authorities condemned the coup in Niger and announced the suspension of long-term assistance to the country. This statement was published on the official website of the British government.
Andrew Mitchell, British Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, condemned the coup in Niger and called on the rebels to release ousted President Mohamed Bazum. The European Economic Community of West Africa (ECOWAS) has also decided to suspend all financial assistance to Niger and suspend commercial and financial transactions with that country.
Recall that earlier the military of Niger spoke on national television and announced the removal of President Mohamed Bazum, as well as the closure of borders. The presidential palace in the capital, Niamey, was blocked by the military.
