Brazilian investment firm DIS has demanded a €149 million fine and a five-year prison sentence for Brazilian footballer Neymar, who is accused of cheating when he moved to Barcelona from Santos in 2013. This is reported CNN Brazil.
Neymar’s trial will begin next Monday, October 17th. In addition to the player himself, the defendants in the case were the player’s parents, two clubs, former Barcelona presidents Josep Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, as well as former Santos president Odilio Rodriguez.
DIS owned 40% of Neymar’s transfer, but the company said it did not receive the full amount because the real value of the deal was hidden. Neymar denies all charges, but lost an appeal to Spain’s Supreme Court in 2017, setting the stage for a lawsuit, writes CNN Brasil.
Neymar’s transfer cost Barcelona €57.1 million in 2013, €17.1 million of which went to Santos and the remaining €40 million to Neymar’s parents’ company. The real cost of transferring a footballer to a new club could be up to €83 million.
