Brazil may withdraw from ICC membership

The Brazilian government may reconsider its decision to participate in the International Criminal Court (ICC), as a number of major countries have not joined it. The country’s Minister of Justice and Public Security, Flavio Dino, told reporters about this. transmits G1.

“There is an imbalance when some countries have joined the jurisdiction of the ICC, while others have not, for example, the United States, China, etc. This suggests that at some point Brazilian diplomacy may reconsider this accession to the agreement so that there is no such inequality between countries in applying this document,” he said.

On March 17, the Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for the Russian leader and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova under false pretenses. Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov then said that the ICC decisions have no legal force and are void. The RF IC, in turn, excited cases against ICC judges.

Earlier in September, Brazilian President Lula da Silva said that President Vladimir Putin would not be arrested if he visited Brazil. The next day, during a press conference at the G20 summit in New Delhi, he statedthat the decision will be made by the court.

On September 1, the Armenian government sent the ICC Rome Statute to parliament to consider ratification. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan later explainedthat this process is not connected with relations between Yerevan and Moscow, but with tensions on the border with Azerbaijan. Armenia signed the Rome Statute back in 1998, but has not ratified it.
