Russian boxer Magomed Kurbanov lost to Israil Madrimov from Uzbekistan in a 12-round fight in Riyadh. The fight ended in a technical knockout in the fifth round. The Russian failed to win the World Boxing Association (WBA) world title in the weight category up to 69.9 kg.
28-year-old Kurbanov suffered the first defeat in his career with 25 wins (13 by knockout). In May 2023, he defeated Frenchman Michel Soro and received the title of mandatory challenger for the WBA title. In 2021, he also became a contender for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) title, but was excluded from the rankings due to a break in performances.
The 29-year-old Madrimov now has 10 wins (7 by knockout) and one draw. He won the WBA title, which became vacant after American Jermell Charlo was stripped of the belt.
