Russian boxer Magomed Kurbanov defeated Michel Soro of France in a 12-round fight in Yekaterinburg. The fight in the weight category up to 69.9 kg ended with a separate decision of the judges. Now Kurbanov has the right to challenge the World Boxing Association (WBA) world title.
Two judges gave the victory to Kurbanov (115-113, 116-112), one – to Soro (115-113). Before the fight, the Russian ranked fifth in the WBA rankings, Soro – second. Now Kurbanov must meet with the WBA champion, who is now the American Jermell Charlo.
For the 27-year-old Russian, the victory was the 25th in his professional career (13 by knockout), he has never lost. The 35-year-old Frenchman now has 35 wins (24 by knockout) and 4 losses.
In another fight of the evening, Russian Olympic champion Evgeny Tishchenko defeated ex-European champion Yves Ngabu from Belgium. The cruiserweight bout also ended in a split decision.
