Former contender for the WBC world title, American boxer Kevin Johnson has applied for Russian citizenship. This is reported by TASS with reference to the representative of the athlete.
“He will have a patronymic Vladimirovich,” Johnson’s spokesman said. “In honor of the Russian president.”
TASS notes that the 43-year-old Johnson had 60 fights in the ring, scoring 36 victories, including 20 by knockout. He lost the fight for the world title in 2009 to the Ukrainian boxer, now the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko. Johnson won the IBO title in 2017 but failed to defend the title a year later.
