FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov said that on the side of Ukraine, members of 13 private military companies (PMCs) from Europe and members of nine “paramilitary proxy formations” are participating in hostilities against Russia. According to him, the FSB has installed 800 mercenaries from 35 countries.
“We record the participation in hostilities of employees of 13 European PMCs and members of nine foreign paramilitary proxy forces,” said Alexander Bortnikov at a meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services (SORB) in Baku. In addition, according to Alexander Bortnikov, there are 17 training camps for Ukrainian mercenaries in the EU countries “under the patronage of NATO intelligence services.”
As the director of the FSB stated, members of ISIS* (Islamic State, banned in the Russian Federation and recognized as terrorist) are participating in the fighting in Ukraine as part of the Ichkerian and Crimean Tatar units. “They are also part of sabotage and reconnaissance groups sent to Russian territory to carry out attacks and terrorist attacks,” says the FSB director.
