Borrell threatened China with complicating relations with the EU because of Ukraine

Relations between the EU countries and China will be complicated if the PRC does not influence Russia. This statement was made by the head of the EU foreign service, Josep Borrell, writes TASS.

According to him, if the PRC does not influence Russia, “EU relations with China will not develop normally.” The second “strategic security problem” with China Borrell called the situation around Taiwan.

He also drew attention to the lack of balance in trade relations between the EU and China. Borrell called for work to reduce Europe’s dependence on China.

Earlier, China’s position on the Ukrainian crisis has been criticized more than once by the EU and the US. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, spoke of China’s “friendly position” towards Russia and called on Beijing to “constructively influence” Moscow. In response, the Chinese Foreign Ministry declared on readiness for dialogue with the EU on the Ukrainian crisis.

In early April, von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron visited China. Newspaper Politico wrotethat the French leader wanted to convince Beijing to influence Moscow to resolve the situation in Ukraine, but he failed to change the position of the PRC.
