Borrell spoke about Wang Yi’s question about the difference in the supply of weapons to Russia and Ukraine

Wang Yi, head of the office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, during an informal conversation in Munich with the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, asked about the difference in arms supplies between Russia and Ukraine. Borrell spoke about this at a press conference in NATO.

“He asked, ‘Why are you worried that I can give weapons to Russia if you give weapons to Ukraine?'” Wang Yi was quoted as saying by a European official (quote according to TASS).

Borrell added that he explained to Wang Yi the difference and the threat the fighting in Ukraine poses to the EU. The head of EU diplomacy called the conversation with the Chinese representative frank. According to Borrell, Wang Yi emphasized that China “does not and will not give Russia weapons.”

February 19 US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken declaredthat the United States is concerned about possible plans by China to supply Russia with lethal weapons for use in Ukraine. According to him, we are talking about “a whole range of things, from ammunition to the weapons themselves.” After that, US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield emphasizedthat China’s supply of weapons to Russia will become a “red line” for the United States.

Earlier at the Munich Security Conference, Wang Yi said that by the end of February, Beijing would publish a “concept paper on the global security initiative” based on Xi Jinping’s proposals. According to Bloomberg, China’s plan to resolve the situation in Ukraine includes the introduction of a truce and the refusal to supply weapons to Kyiv.
