The EU training mission will train 30,000 Ukrainian soldiers, EU diplomat Josep Borrell wrote on his Twitter page.

“I am pleased to inform Prime Minister Denys Shmygal that the EU Military Assistance Mission will train an additional 15,000 Ukrainian soldiers, bringing the total number of trained personnel to 30,000,” he wrote.

Borrell also noted that the EU will provide 25 million euros to support demining efforts. “Protecting civilians and their livelihoods is a priority,” he added.

On October 17, 2022, the EU Council approved the launch of a training mission for Ukrainian troops and territorial defense forces on the territory of the EU countries. The mission’s mandate will initially last two years and its funding is estimated at 107 million euros.

In October of the same year, the Hungarian authorities announced that the country would not participate in the EU mission. It was noted that Budapest did not give its consent to the creation of this training mission. In December, a similar decision was not supported by Croatia. President Zoran Milovic said that this is contrary to the Croatian Constitution.
