The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that he “does not understand” those who want to stop the supply of weapons to Kyiv in order to achieve peace, transmit “RIA News”.
“Some people think that the solution is to stop military supplies to Ukraine. To be honest, I don’t understand this… I don’t understand such naivety on the part of the left, I have friends who think so,” Borrell told MEPs.
The head of EU diplomacy urged such people to understand that cutting off supplies will not end the conflict.
“The death of every person causes me great pain, just like you,” Borrell said, adding that in order to quickly end the conflict, “it is necessary not less, but more and even faster to help Ukraine.”
On January 25, Germany and the United States announced the delivery of 14 Leopard 2 tanks and 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Kyiv, respectively. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius specified that the first German military equipment would arrive in Ukraine in late March or early April. Poland, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands also announced plans to transfer tanks to Kyiv. In addition, Great Britain is going to send its Challenger 2 to Ukraine.
The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, warned that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia. And Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that the supply of long-range weapons would only expand the geography of the special operation.
