Borrell: EU must be ready to compensate for cuts in US aid to Kyiv

US aid to Ukraine is likely to decline, so European Union (EU) countries should be prepared to compensate, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said.
“EU countries must be politically willing to continue to support Ukraine and offset US aid, which is likely to be reduced,” he said (quote according to TASS).
On October 9, Borrell, commenting on the adoption of the US interim budget without assistance to Ukraine, stated about the uncertainty regarding the financing of Kyiv. He also recalled that the EU has already allocated a total of 82 billion euros to Ukraine since last year, of which more than 25 billion euros are for military needs. He confirmed Brussels’ readiness to train 30,000 Ukrainian fighters. On October 5, he said that the EU cannot compensate for aid to Ukraine, which was suspended by the United States.
November 3 White House admittedthat the United States has begun sending smaller military aid packages to Ukraine in order to stretch out support. The decision was made in the context of a deadlock in which Congress found itself on the issue of financing Ukraine. On the same day, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced a new package of military assistance to Ukraine worth $125 million, which will include weapons and equipment.
