Borrell admitted that there are people in the EU who want to stop supporting Ukraine

Part of European society is inclined to stop supporting Ukraine, but this temptation must be fought, declared Josep Borrell, head of EU diplomacy, in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

“A part of European society is tempted to refuse, they want to stop the war, because they cannot bear the consequences, the costs. We have to fight this way of thinking,” he said (quote according to TASS).

According to Borrell, Europe has well equipped Ukraine, and efforts cannot be weakened, since “Russia is not going to give up.” “I don’t want war, but it is clear that it will be won on the battlefield, diplomacy is stuck,” added the head of EU diplomacy.

Formerly Borrell pointed outthat the EU would like peace talks on Ukraine “as soon as possible”, but the country’s leadership should decide.

Borrell said in July that the conflict in Ukraine would be won on the battlefield. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called this statement “out of the ordinary.” According to him, such words say that the EU sees Kyiv as a springboard for the suppression of Russia.

On September 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recalled Moscow’s readiness to start negotiations with Kyiv on what is happening in Ukraine. He stressed that without early negotiations, the process of concluding a treaty would become increasingly difficult. But in an interview with CNN, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian side is currently not ready for negotiations with Russia. According to him, neither the European countries nor Ukraine will start negotiations with Russia as long as the special military operation continues. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov also noted that now there are no prerequisites for negotiations between the presidents of the two countries.
