Specialists of the State Research Center for Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, together with scientists from the University of MISIS, have developed a technology for saturating cotton fabrics with boron nitride nanoparticles, which make these fabrics resistant to temperature and protect against ultraviolet radiation. It is expected that such fabrics can be used in the production of sportswear, as well as medical items such as pillowcases, sheets and gowns.
According to one of the authors of the development, an employee of the laboratory “Inorganic Nanomaterials” of the University, Elizaveta Permyakova, natural textile fabrics – cotton, linen and wool have such important properties as environmental friendliness and breathability. However, they can absorb moisture, so there is a risk of microbial growth on them. If boron nitride nanocleaners are applied to such fabrics, their antibacterial and hygroscopic properties will improve, and resistance to high temperatures will increase.
— The nanotextile obtained by our method retains its valuable properties even after repeated washing, and therefore it can be used in the tailoring of sportswear and overalls,” Elizaveta Permyakova clarified.
