Borisov: Russia should increase the number of satellites by 5 times

Russia needs to increase the number of satellites five times, from 200 to 1,000, said the head of Roskosmos, Yuri Borisov.

“In our opinion, by 2030 we need to have a group of at least a thousand devices,” he said at a meeting of the Royal Readings in Moscow.

Borisov noted that for such an increase by the specified date, it is necessary to produce 250, and then 300-350 devices per year, given that the spent satellites will have to be replaced. Now in Russia, the terms for the production of satellites are “insufficient,” he believes.

Borisov also said that the constellation of satellites increased to a thousand should include devices for various purposes, including meteorological, navigation, remote sensing and communications.
