Boris Pistorius takes office as German Defense Minister

Boris Pistorius became the new Minister of Defense of Germany, today he took the oath in the Bundestag, according to site government.

Pistorius became the first male head of the German Defense Ministry in ten years. He was born in 1962 and previously served as Interior Minister of Lower Saxony (since 2013). From 2006 to 2013 he was the mayor of Osnabrück, and since 2017 he has been a member of the state parliament in Hannover (the administrative center of Lower Saxony).
Pistorius’s predecessor in this post, Christine Lambrecht, resigned on January 16 because of too much media attention to her person, which allegedly interferes with the normal work of the ministry. Before her, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer was Minister of Defense. She replaced her fellow party member Ursula von der Leyen in this post, who was elected head of the European Commission.
