In Uzbekistan, border guards killed two Afghans who violated the state border. The incident took place on August 21 near the city of Termez in the Surkhandarya region, but Tashkent has officially confirmed the information about the victims only now. The Directorate 4 Telegram channel writes about this.
A group of twenty-four Afghan nationals reportedly landed on the Aral island of Paygambar to harvest licorice without permission. The violators refused and resisted the lawful demand of the border guards to leave the territory of Uzbekistan. The soldiers had to open fire. Two Afghans were killed and six more were injured.
The detainees and those injured in the shooting will soon be sent home.
Information circulating online about a direct clash between Uzbek servicemen and the Taliban has not been confirmed.
The Uzbek authorities expressed their condolences to the relatives of the victims and acknowledged that the border guards committed some violations during the incident. Kabul and Tashkent are currently conducting a joint investigation into the incident. Both sides said they were in favor of a peaceful settlement of the conflict on the Afghan-Uzbek border.
