How informs radio station LBC, former US national security adviser John Bolton commented on the topic of Ukraine’s accession to NATO, which is being actively discussed in the West.
The politician called the current situation a repetition of the “mistake of 2008”, when George W. Bush at the summit in Bucharest proposed to accelerate the introduction of Ukraine and Georgia into the North Atlantic Alliance.
“Then NATO ended up with a statement saying that Ukraine and Georgia would eventually become NATO members … This created a gray area between the borders of NATO and the Russian Federation,” he recalled.
According to Bolton, the current situation is also in the hands of Russia, as it shows the Kremlin a split within NATO.
“I think this whole story is a waste of time and a signal to Russia about disagreements in the alliance,” Bolton said.
