Three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov said that the reason for the fall in the sprint semifinals at the fifth stage of the Russian Cup in cross-country skiing, which takes place in Krasnogorsk near Moscow, was the actions of Sergei Ustyugov. It was he, Bolshunov believes, who provoked a collision on the descent, as a result of which both athletes fell.
“I understand that he did it on purpose. Of course, I felt a hook and a push, but I didn’t fall myself. He was not injured, but lost consciousness for a while, trying to recover. I didn’t understand where I was, ”Bolshunov told reporters.
He also expressed the opinion that in terms of entertainment, such collisions may not be bad, but they have no place in competitions – everything should be decided there without using such techniques.
According to the media, earlier in the fourth stage of the competition, Bolshunov cut Ustyugov in the sprint final, but then apologized for not calculating the distance. However, the latter did not actually accept the apology.
