Microblogging service BlueSky from Twitter creator Jack Dorsey is going to launch this week open the ability for all users to register on the platform. Previously, access to the application was by invitation only.
Over 3 million people have registered on the service, of which 1.6 million use the application monthly. The social network operates on the open standard Authenticated Transfer Protocol (AT), which assumes a decentralized social network. Within a week, all users will be able to register with BlueSky, and within a month, third-party developers will be able to host their own servers based on the basic AT protocol, which is intended to compete with ActivityPub.
Jack Dorsey launched BlueSky in March 2023 after leaving Twitter. Formerly BlueSky allowed all users can view posts on the social network, and also introduced a new logo in the shape of a butterfly.
